ABC/D 07.09.15: 5 Slack Communities I recommend!

What is Slack?

Slack is a team communication and messaging app that’s exploded among tech teams all over the world.

Even though Slack is meant for companies, more and more topic- and interest-themed groups are forming around the platform!

Here’s a selection of them:

  1. Startup Study Group (1,800+ members)
SSG is a global community of startup founders and investors, founded by Charles Jo. The 375-odd channels are always abuzz with activity and absolutely impossible to follow! Must-join for startups.
  2. #Nomads (3,70+ members)
Currently the largest Slack team in the world, the ‘#Nomads’ community is chock-a-block full of freelancers, remote workers and digital nomads. Advice on gear, housing, travel, jobs and more flies thick and fast!
  3. Buffer Community (400+ members)
One of the youngest communities by a team I aboslutely adore! The Buffer Community Slack is the place to be if you’re in social media or looking to build a remote startup team. Lots of like-minded people!
  4. #Startup (3,000+ members)
I think this was the original public Slack community — now the second largest group. Join at your own peril, and if you’ve got hours to spare every day😁
  5. Product Hunt Global (2,100+ members)
If you’re in tech, you’re on Product Hunt — and probably already on the PH Slack. In case you’ve somehow missed the memo, sign up to the community of product builders from around the globe!

Personally, I love the idea of building a community on Slack. I’ve had the pleasure of building friendships and partnerships with people from all over the world thanks to this single tool!

If you’re looking for more Slack teams/communities to join, take a look at Chats.Directory where you can find ‘a curated list of the best private Slack groups for professionals’.

AND, if you’re an entrepreneur or startup-per based in Hong Kong, I have news for you! There’s a dedicated Slack team just for you, founded and administered by Matthieu Bodin, myself and some pretty amazing people:
